The Russian Airborne Forces or VDV (from Vozdushno-desantnye voyska Rossii, Russian: Воздушно-десантные войска России, ВДВ), who wear blue-and-white striped shirts, camouflage uniforms and blue berets, own heavy airborne equipment like airborne fighting vehicles and self-propelled guns. They outgun the light airborne forces of other countries. As early as 1980, the Soviet military started to seek a special armored vehicle which could be used in operations by special forces. In 2010, Russia restarted this project and named it Typhoon. A number of well-known Russian automobile manufacturers were involved in the Typhoon project. Among them, Kamaz developed a light four-wheeled armored vehicle for the VDV, the K-4386 Typhoon-VDV. The K-4386 has an EPOCH remote controlled weapon station equipped with a 30mm 2A42 auto cannon, which makes its firepower stand out from its counterparts. This vehicle’s hull is made with composite ceramic and steel armor. Its height adjustable suspension can be used to adjust its ground clearance.
